WELCOME TO THE QUARTO TRANSLATION/ GOLDEN EGG ACADEMY DIVERSITY AWARD 2017

Golden egg awardsGolden Egg Academy is delighted that as a result of fantastic support from Quarto Translation, we are able to offer the Quarto Translation/Golden Egg Academy Diversity Awards.

At GEA and Quarto we pride ourselves on our ethical approach to business and to publishing. Our aim always is to encourage diversity in books and publishing in general. Therefore these Awards are aimed at encouraging diverse writers, diverse stories and those aspiring to be editors, as well as providing opportunities for writers who would not normally be able to benefit from the expertise at GEA.

If you’re thinking they’d never like a story like mine, they wouldn’t want me,

STOP right now! We are actively looking for diverse stories, writers and editors.

At GEA and Quarto we are defining diversity according to the Inclusive Minds definition, which includes race and heritage, disability, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, age, socio-economic status, religion and culture. The awards will be for writers of talent whose work is likely to reach publishable standard, for the ultimate aim is to enable children to see themselves in the literature they are reading and meet published writers that they might wish to emulate. It is also open to those who are interested in becoming editors and want to take that first step by taking our Editors’ Course.

Get those stories ready. Submit them soon. We are looking forward to reading them.

For further information and details on the submission process, including the appropriate forms, download the attached three documents.

The Awards are open for submissions until 31st July.

At the Golden Egg Academy (GEA) and Quarto Translations (QT) we pride ourselves on our ethical approach to business and to publishing. Our aim always is to encourage diversity in books and publishing in general. We are aware of the current issues in publishing and would like to ensure there are opportunities for both diverse authors and books featuring diverse characters – inclusive stories that are main stream and not isolated as genre or a segregated strand of literature. We are also aware that the cost of our Plans might be prohibitive for those on low incomes.

Firstly let us define what we mean by diverse and what it encompasses. Diversity includes, according to Inclusive Minds, race and heritage, disability, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, age, socio-economic status, religion, and culture. The applicant could identify themselves as being from one or more under-represented diverse groups. Alternatively, the applicant could be writing a narrative that is inclusive and includes a range of authentic marginalised characters, which have been handled appropriately but effectively without relying on stereotypes.

For further information check out the FAQs and the T&Cs to ensure that you are eligible to apply.
