Story Structure: Raising the Stakes for Your Characters

To Plot or Not To Plot? That is the Question.

Should you strictly follow or throw away the five-act structure? Escape from the episodic? Lighten up on linear storylines? This workshop invites you to get back to basics and examine the way character-driven plot works inside the five and the three act structures. You will look at the inciting incident, the fatal flaw, the reveal, the volte-face, character arcs, set pieces and motivation. You can’t break the rules until you know them. Be ready to interrogate your protagonists, to be sure they are worthy companions for your reader.

When you have completed this workshop you will be able to answer these questions:

  • How can I harness narrative drive to create compelling page-turning?
  • How can I structure my plot to truly give my reader the best experience possible?

This workshop is part of our Academy Plan Year One: July 2017 – June 2018.
