Pitch and Submission

What does it mean to ‘be on submission’ and where do you begin? Sending your quality manuscript to an agent or publisher is an important stage of your writing career. This will be the first time your manuscript will be seen, outside of Golden Egg, and you have to make it count. Having a strategy, taking charge of the process, and being prepared to work hard is vital. You will need to research the agent/publisher, manage the administration, as well as understand the inevitable emotional impact on you. This workshop will discuss the importance of the pitch and synopsis, and how to write a cover letter that stands out.

This workshop intends to:

  1. Explain how to write a pitch for the novel
  2. Explain how to write a synopsis and cover letter.
  3. Show how to create a submission strategy – excel spreadsheet
  4. Explain what it means to be on the submission and the emotional implications

With special guest speaker Kate Shaw, The Viney Agency.

Preparation:

Have a go at writing a three sentence pitch and bring it to the workshop.
